Below are a few quotes that help get me through the tough days (We all have 'em, don't try to deny it):
A Final thought...
The Center for Advanced Learning has provided me with wonderful opportunities this year alone, and I'm so lucky I was one of three students from Barlow accepted. Throughout the year, I've learned many valuable life lessons. I've met so many great people here, and made friendships that I can only hope will last a lifetime. From this, I've learned that the last thing I'll ever do is judge a book by it's cover. When you're with the same class of twenty five students for a whole year, you begin to learn a lot about people, you begin to feel like a family. You learn to listen to people without judging, and to empathize when you can't sympathize. You learn to rely on other group members for projects, and you learn how to balance a full time work load.
One of the most valuable, and meaningful lessons I learned this year, is that you will only be given the amount of responsibility that you can handle. That was the biggest difference I felt transitioning from Barlow to CAL. At my home high school, the teacher babied each and every student, they practically held their hand and walked you to class. At CAL, it's all you. There are no bells to dismiss you or tell you that you're late to class. There are no hall monitors, or student management officers in the parking lot, making sure you don't leave class early. You can choose if you do or don't attend class, if you do or don't finish your homework assignment, but most importantly, if you do or don't succeed.
I would not be the person I am today if I hadn't attended CAL. I've learned so many things that have shaped my personality, how I handle myself, and how I approach life. I'm a more respectable, dependable, diligent working student than I was in the fall. I'm proud of who I've become, and I can't wait to see the final changes made by the time graduation roles around.
On the final note, I would like to thank a few people. My teachers; Mr. Turner, Mr. Capadona, Ms. Helm, and Mrs. Lutu, you guys have been a really big part of shaping me into who I am at this moment. You've laughed with me, and helped be grow as a student, so thank you. Jordyn; I don't think I couldn't handled CAL without you. We've gone through so much in just one year, you've seen me at my worst, and stood by me through and through. It means a lot to say I have a friend like you (sorry about the cheese, but you do really mean a lot). And last but not least, I would like to thank my family; Mom, Dad, and Rianna. This has been such a trying year for me, and you guys proved once again than blood is thicker than water, so thank you. You're all incredible, and I can't wait 'till next fall!
