What was this unit about?
The unit, "Reproduction" was about just that; the human body and how we reproduce. I've had health classes before, but they don't do reproduction justice like this class. You learn all about the male and female reproductive systems... In detail.
What did i like about it?
After you've learned all of your vocabulary Lutu puts you into groups, and you get to make a board game that compliments the unit! My group (Amanda, and Mai) made a Chutes and Ladders game, but renamed it Sperms and Penises. The ladders were penisis, and our chutes were sperm.
How did it change me?
When you're in a classroom environment learning about sex with your peers, obviously there's a level of maturity that must be upheld by everyone. Depending on your class, it's not that serious. I laughed throughout the entire unit, but so did everyone else. It taught me that sometimes, around peers, it's okay to be silly, and laugh when you find something funny. I'm not in the actual "Real World" yet, and it's okay for me to laugh and be a little immature. At the same time, this unit was taken seriously, and I learned almost too much about sexually transmitted infections, and it has ensured that I'm safe in the future with in my sexual relations.
what would i have done differently?
If I could go back, and redo this unit, I probably would've spent more time coming up with a quality game. After the game day was over, we got to look at the other classes games, and I have to admit, they were all (collectively) more creative than we were. If you have the chance to do this unit, take time to think about a game that would be entertaining for you to play!
